Ibuprofen
Indications/Uses
Reduces fever in childn, relieves mild to moderate pain eg, toothache, post-tooth extraction, post-op pain, headache & mild to moderate pain in rheumatic diseases in bone/joint; sprain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 8-12 yr 5 mL 3-4 times daily, 3-7 yr 2.5 mL 3-4 times daily, 1-2 yr 1.25 mL 3-4 times daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ibuprofen or other NSAIDs. Patients w/ severe & active peptic ulcer, & in whom aspirin or other NSAIDs induce asthma, rhinitis & urticaria.
Special Precautions
History of peptic ulcer. Blood coagulation. Heart failure, HTN, fluid retention. Asthma, SLE. Impaired kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances including nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, gastric bleeding; skin redness, bronchospasm, lymphopenia; reduce visual acuity; reversible color blindness; thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Acetosal, warfarin, anticoagulants.
